Advanced Studies Institute
The OES Advanced Studies Institute is a high level focused event like a Summer School that offers professional development and education in advanced topics. A typical ASI will have 20-30 delegates and 2-4 accredited expert speakers, focusing on a specific ‘hot’ topic. The 2-day program will normally consist of lectures and workshop activities.
ASI events are normally proposed and sponsored by Technology Committees but any OES member can initiate an ASI by expressing interest to the VP Technical Activities. There is no call for proposals or closing date because ASIs are considered on a rolling basis. Each ASI must be approved by AdCom so about a 12-month lead time is necessary.
Funding support is available through the Technology Committee Activity Funding Scheme, and/or from AdCom at the time of approval. Income for an ASI will be from registration fees, industry and institutional patronage and competitive grants, with in-kind support from institutions and industry. Expenditure can include facilities and equipment hire, lunches and coffee breaks, travel and accommodation.
