Publish and Explore the Depths of Oceanic Engineering Expertise

(ISSN 0364-9059)

DESCRIPTION

The IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering (IEEE-JOE) is a quarterly journal published by the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (IEEE OES) whose field of interest includes all aspects of science, engineering and technology that address research, development, and operations pertaining to all bodies of water. This includes the creation of new capabilities and technologies from concept design through prototypes, testing and operational systems to sense, explore, analyze, understand, develop, use and responsibly manage natural resources.

Types of Contributions:

The IEEE-JOE publishes peer-reviewed articles and technical communications, as well as letters-to-the-editor.

  • Peer-reviewed Journal Articles are well-rounded treatments of a problem area describing an original contribution to ocean science and technology. These articles may also represent comprehensive contributions of a theoretical or analytical nature.
  • The peer-reviewed Technical Communication is a concise and focused study or analysis. Literature and technology reviews, system performance and tradeoff studies, innovative applications of existing technology, are all valid technical communication contributions. For more detailed information on what comprises a Technical Communication, please refer to JOE Editorials [1, 2].
  • Letters-to-the-editor are scholarly opinions on articles published in the Journal. Authors of the articles in question are given the right-of-reply.

Throughout the year, collections of papers focusing on specific topics are published as Special Issues. Such issues may contain also a regular section with articles and technical communications on other topics.

The final recommendation concerning the classification and publication of a manuscript is the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief.

The Journal of Oceanic Engineering is a hybrid journal, allowing either Traditional submission, or Open Access (OA) submission.

Authors who select the Open Access option when submitting final files for an accepted manuscript commit to pay the US$2,645 OA fee, plus applicable taxes in order to enable unrestricted public access to their work.

With the Traditional submission option, manuscripts will be available to qualified subscribers and purchasers via IEEE Xplore.

For additional information refer to IEEE’s Open Access policy.

To submit a paper for publication in the Journal please refer to the Guide for Authors.

To submit a paper for publication in the Journal please refer to the Guide for Authors.

Throughout the year, collections of papers concerning specific topics are published as Special Issues. Regular issue contributed papers on other topics are accepted for publication in these volumes as well and are placed in a “Regular Issue Papers” section. If you are interested in proposing a Special Issue, contact the Editor-in-Chief (joe-editor@ieeeoes.org), who will work with you to define the scope of the issue and compose the Call for Papers.

Guidelines for Proposing a Special Issue

Please provide:

  • Title/Topic for proposed issue
  • Descriptive paragraph/topics of interest
  • List of Guest Editors who will be assisting with the issue
    • Include complete contact information and CVs for all editors assisting with the issue
    • Identify key contact(s) for Call for Papers
  • Proposed deadline for submission of papers
  • Proposed target date for publication of issue
  • Approximate number of papers anticipated

To provide enough time for the peer review process, the estimated publication date for a Special Issue should be a minimum of one year from the target date for paper submission. Publication dates for the Journal (15th of January, April, July and October) must be considered. For example,

  • If you request that authors submit their papers by May 31, the earliest target publication date for the issue would be July of the following year.
