Honors and Honorees

Awards

Distinguished Service Award
The Distinguished Service Award is given to honor an individual IEEE member for outstanding contributions towards furthering the objectives of the Oceanic Engineering Society. The award consists of an appropriately worded certificate. Candidates for the Distinguished Service Award are nominated by the OES Awards Committee and must be approved by a majority of the elected members of the AdCom.

Distinguished Technical Achievement Award Recipients
The Distinguished Technical Achievement Award is given to honor an outstanding technical contribution to oceanic engineering in either the fundamental or applied areas. The recipient need not be a member of the Oceanic Engineering Society or the IEEE. The award recognizes either a single major invention or scientific contribution or a distinguished series of contributions over a long period of time.

IEEE OES Presidential Award
Description. The award will be presented to an OES member giving volunteer time on a regular basis. This award allows the Society to recognize the work done by an individual at a more basic level, i.e. not in the Administration of the Society. The purpose is to fill in a gap between a simple “thanks” and a Distinguished Service Award.

IEEE OES Emeritus Award
Description. The award will be presented to an OES member having been particularly important for the Society and who is no longer in any position of Society governance. A call for nominations will be issued by the Awards Committee, which will choose the recipients.

IEEE OES Company/Institution Award
The award will be presented to a corporation or institution that has significantly supported the activity and goals of OES through such areas as conference participation, patronage, technical innovation and technical or administrative participation. A call for nominations will be issued by the Awards Committee, which will choose the recipient.
